Back in October 20th of 1951, Maximiano Barros da Costa moved from Portugal to the island of Curacao to work as a laborer for the Shell company. Two years later, he decided to move to Venezuela looking for a better life and opportunities for him and his family. It was at the city of Punto Fijo, Falcon State, where he started a small business in a kiosk called “La Parrilla Picada en media Pipa”. Later, he moved to Maracaibo, Zulia, motivated by one his clients “Mr. Urdaneta”. he arrived at the traditional streets of Belloso and started a half pipe grill from where “Esta es mi Arepa” was born with a menu of arepas for a cent of a Bolivar and chopped parrillas for one Bolivar. Due to the success of the restaurant, he started growing, and then he decided to move to a larger place in a better location close to the Avenida Santa Rita. At this new location is when the name of “Parrilla Familiar” was born in 1964. It was attended by him and his family, and after four years of functioning, the restaurant was moved to the vicinity of Cecilio Acosta under the shade of leafy mango trees, where he tended tables and served parrillas seasoned with salsa verde which is a sauce created by his own. “Parrilla Familiar Da Silva” was born and with it, his external and humble home. Today, it has opened its doors in Miami to continue serving with love, dedication, and quality as always.
